This is my new digital picture frame, or "DPF" for those of you who like TLAs (three letter acronyms). It's a framed picture that changes its content periodically because the framed image is actually an LCD computer monitor from an old Dell Latitude CSx laptop. There are similar products on the market but none worked for me for three main reasons:
1) They're expensive
2) Most require a subscription to an image-downloading service
3) There's no fun in BUYING one!
So, like any geek with a spare laptop and lots of time on his hands (or a very patient wife!), I set out to build one myself. I'm certainly not the first to do this. If you search the web for "digital picture frame" you'll come up with quite a few pictures of these. For the benefit of anyone who is interested in building one of these himself, I took lots of pictures and have posted a sort of tour showing how I made this. Maybe you can learn from my mistakes!
Before we continue, let me explain a couple things. All references to prices are in US dollars; I use metric and "English" length standards as interchangeably as a Ford Motors engineer, and I tend to over-explain things sometimes. Feel free to skim! Now, with that out of the way, let's continue! Use the navigation bar at the left to move between pages.
